Heat Pump Installation
An air source heat pump, normally powered by electricity, is like having an air conditioner that can also run in reverse in cooler winter months to provide efficient heating for your home.
Total, Year-Round Comfort
Heat pumps take heat from the outside air and transport it inside your home through copper pipes and a coil for heat transfer. Even if it’s two degrees outside, there’s enough ambient heat for the heat pump to work its magic. In warmer summer months, this process is reversed to cool your home. Air source heat pumps, ideal for typical BC weather, work most efficiently at temperatures above zero degrees Celsius. No matter what the forecast calls for, you’ll stay toasty and warm in the winter, and as cool as a cucumber in the summer.
The Dual-Fuel, All-In-One Solution
Heat pumps provide the option of “dual fuel,” switching from natural gas to electricity (depending on what’s most efficient). Despite popular opinion, a heat pump and furnace go hand in hand: The furnace fan pushes air through the system in either the heating or cooling mode. On the coldest days – a rarity with BC’s mild climate – the furnace’s heating cycle automatically takes over to provide the back-up heat when needed.
The Efficiency Heavyweight
According to Natural Resources Canada, air source heat pumps operate with Heating Seasonal Performance Factors (HSPFs) from 6.7 to 10 in various locations across Canada. The higher the HSPF rating, the more efficient a unit is.
Highly efficient in our mild climate, air source heat pumps boast ratings as high as 8.7 to 10 HSPFs in homes across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Plus, compared to traditional systems, air force heat pumps produce less CO2, so they’re easier on the environment.
